How is the FI-acceleration ranking calculated?
We use the same engine that powers the IndepAI dashboard. For one fixed reference profile ($90,000 annual income, $45,000 annual expenses, $50,000 in savings), we compare each city's real cost of living against your home cost baseline and calculate how many years sooner that profile reaches financial independence there.
Why only 24 cities, not hundreds?
Our cities directory covers many more places to live. This ranking only includes hubs where we have verified cost, tax, visa and safety data deep enough to rank fairly. That is a deliberate accuracy tradeoff, not a data gap.
Does this ranking match my own numbers?
No. It uses one reference profile so every city is compared on equal terms. Your income, expenses and savings will move your own FI date differently. Use the FI-by-city tool to run your own numbers against specific cities.
How often is the ranking updated?
