Cheapest Cities to Retire Early in Europe

15 cities under $2,000 a month, cheapest first

This list is for people who want the FIRE math of a lower-cost country without giving up Europe's infrastructure and time zone. Europe has a reputation for being expensive, but that reputation is built on a handful of capitals; a lot of the continent sits well under $2,000 a month once you look past London, Paris, and Zurich. We capped this list at $2,000 a month in cost of living and sorted the cheapest first, so the countries doing the real work for your FI date rise to the top.

The tradeoff is that cheap Europe is not warm Europe. Several cities on this list have real winters, and the savings usually come from being outside the Eurozone's priciest corner rather than from a warmer climate. Healthcare and banking are still built to a standard that a lot of nomads find easier to navigate than options further afield, and a short flight home stays realistic almost everywhere on the list.

Every city here cleared the same bar we use sitewide: a real enrichment run, a population or nomad-community signal worth trusting, and a safety level we consider livable. Nothing is guessed to fill a gap. The cost figures on each card match the number on that city's own page exactly.
